Tales of the Texas Rangers “Blood Trail” NBC 1/20/52 Tales of the Texas Rangers, a western adventure old-time radio drama, premiered on July 8, 1950, on the US NBC radio network and remained on the air through September 14, 1952. Movie star Joel McCrea starred as Texas Ranger Jayce Pearson, who used the latest scientific techniques to identify the criminals and his faithful horse, Charcoal (or “Charky,” as Jayce would sometimes refer to him), to track them down. The shows were reenactments of actual Texas Ranger cases. The series was produced and directed by Stacy Keach, Sr., and was sponsored for part of its run by Wheaties. Captain Manuel T. “Lone Wolf” Gonzaullas, a Ranger for 30 years and who was said to have killed 31 men during his career, served as consultant for the series. The series was adapted for television from 1955 to 1957 and produced by Screen Gems. For the TV version, Willard Parker took over the role of Jace Pearson. On radio, Pearson often worked by request with a local sheriff’s office or police department but on the TV show, he had a regular partner, Ranger Clay Morgan (who had been an occasional character on the radio show), played by Harry Lauter. CARE’s Executive Director Marita Noon CARE (Citizens Alliance for Responsible Energy) is a nonprofit organization based in Albuquerque, NM that advocates on behalf of energy and the energy industry–operating from the platform “Energy Makes America Great!” CARE works on energy issues state-wide, region-wide and nation-wide, focusing on oil, gas, coal, and nuclear/uranium. (Wind and solar are also supported, but due to their “darling” status, they seldom need advocating.) The organization was founded in 2005, the brainchild of some independent oil and gas operators in southeastern New Mexico who were tired of being vilified by the media. They created CARE to get a positive message about energy to the media and the public. In the last five years, CARE has gained prominence in the media and recognition with the public. Their goals are achieved through a variety of public forums and speaking engagements, statewide student speech competitions, frequent publication in the area newspapers, television appearances, a thorough website, monthly e-newsletter, regular blog updates featuring the writings of experts, a monthly conference call that allows industry professionals to personally interact with a variety of experts, and even a simple “Energy Makes America Great” bumper sticker campaign. His first musical impressions were connected with his father, famous composer Vladimir Vasilievich Bunin. After his family moved to Moscow, Victor Bunin became a musical student at the Musical College of the Moscow Tchai-kovsky Conservatoire under Olga Mukhortova, and later, Mirra Sever. After graduation from the Musical College, Bunin studied at the Moscow Conservatoire under professor Samuil Feinberg (in 1956 – 1962), and then went onto post-graduate courses with professor Victor Merzhanov. In 1961, Victor Bunin appeared in All-Russian piano competition and made off with the first prize. The pianist’s agenda is well-packed with recitals and tours in Russia and abroad (Great Britain, France, Italy, Yugoslavia, USA, Syria, Ireland and other countries). In order to encourage Americans to prepare themselves, their families and their communities, the US Department of Homeland Security, in partnership with The Advertising Council, has sponsored public service advertisements (PSAs) that educate and empower Americans to prepare for and respond to all kinds of emergencies. The Ready Campaign asks individuals to do three key things to prepare for the unexpected: get an emergency supply kit, make a family emergency plan, and be informed about the different types of emergencies that could occur and their appropriate responses. The Campaign has television, radio, print, outdoor and internet advertisements directed toward individuals and families; radio, print, outdoor and internet advertisements directed toward owners and managers of small and medium-sized business; and television, radio, print, outdoor and internet advertisements for Spanish speakers. All of the Ready ads are PSAs, meaning they run in donated media space only. In November 2006, the campaign released new English PSAs for individuals and families which feature real people and take a documentary style approach as well as a new ad with Mrs. Laura Bush. In January 2007, new Spanish PSAs were released which highlight the importance of emergency preparedness through the use of Hispanic cultural metaphors that embody the need to have an emergency plan.
