December 1, 1954 www.amazon.com Watch the full program: thefilmarchived.blogspot.com This Is Your Life is an American television documentary series broadcast on NBC, originally hosted by its producer, Ralph Edwards from 1952 to 1961. In the show, the host surprises a guest, and proceeds to take them through their life in front of an audience including friends and family. Edwards revived the show in 1971-72, while Joseph Campanella hosted a version in 1983. Edwards returned for some specials in the late 1980s, before his death in 2005. The show originated as a radio show on NBC Radio airing from 1948 to 1952. Other versions of the television show have also been made in Britain from 1955, as well as in Australia, in New Zealand and in Scandinavia. The format of the show consisted of the host, who would surprise someone (usually a celebrity or public figure, occasionally an ordinary citizen) and, consulting his “red book”, conduct a biography of the subject in a television studio. The subject would be presented with family members and old friends, and reunited with old acquaintances. The 1950s edition of the show was aired live before a theater audience. The celebrity guests were ambushed by Ralph Edwards and confronted by the microphone and cameras. They made their way to the studio during the first commercial break. Most of the honorees quickly got over their initial shock and enjoyed meeting bygone friends again, as with Don DeFore on May 6, 1953. Pioneer movie producer … Video Rating: 5 / 5

Earl Nightingale Earl Nightingale (1921 – 1989) was an acclaimed broadcaster, a highly successful entrepreneur, and co-founder (with Lloyd Conant) of the Nightingale-Conant Corporation, one of the world’s largest producers and publishers of personal development and self-help audio programs. Born into poor California family in 1921, on the eve of the Depression, Earl Nightingale was no stranger to overcoming obstacles and conquering difficulties; and he had a unique gift for inspiring others around him to do the same. From the time he was a young boy, Earl was hungry for knowledge. He would frequent the Long Beach Public Library in California, searching for the answer to the question, How can a person, starting from scratch, who has no particular advantage in the world, reach the goals that he feels are important to him, and by so doing, make a major contribution to others? His desire to find an answer, coupled with his natural curiosity about the world and its workings spurred him to a lifelong study of success and what makes people successful. Earl Nightingale’s early career began when, as a member of the Marine Corps, he volunteered to work at a local radio station as an announcer. The Marines also gave him a chance to travel, although he only got as far as Hawaii when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. Earl was one of only 12 men to survive the bombing of the battleship USS Arizona. After five more years in the service, he moved first to Phoenix then Chicago … Video Rating: 5 / 5
