You know I’ve been watching next-gen commercials and I must say I’m pretty disappointed. The Wii has their japanese salesmen who say “Wii Would Like to Play” and they have fun with a family. Meh. Gears of War had a sad song as we followed Marcus run down a dark street. Good I guess. MGS4 had a movie trailer, was okay. Soul Calibur 4 showed off gameplay, not much else. Mass Effect was okay, Sonic was okay….they’ve all just been okay. I’m not a fan of all the next gen commercials. They do nothing but show off their product. Or sometimes they don’t show gameplay at all! Where’s the humour? Where’s the effort to make an interesting commercial anymore? This is a collection of some truly epic video game commercials and ones that the people making commercials today should probably look at. This is what convinced me to play Battletanx when I had no interest in it whatsoever. This is what had me laughing myself silly when I saw them on TV. THESE are commercials! Bring the fun back! Anyhoo, enjoy. Shown are: Battletanx Global Assault, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage, Mario Party, NFL 2K, Twisted Metal 4, Super Mario Bros. DX, Metal Gear Solid, Batman Forever, Crash Team Racing, Soul Calibur 2, Jet Grind Radio, Pac Man World, Starcraft 64, Pokemon Red & Blue, Metal Gear Solid 2, Mortal Kombat 2, Donkey Kong 64 and Super Mario Sunshine.

If you haven’t heard the term “podcast” yet, you will.

It’s about to blow the world of online audio through the roof as every Tom, Dick and Shirley can now operate a high powered Internet Radio station providing on-demand audio (and shortly, video) with nothing more than a microphone, simple software, and a little imagination.

Just like cable TV in the 1980′s gave smaller networks and individuals a voice on television, podcasting gives individuals a voice (literally) through online audio.

Podcasting is actually the audio form of “blogging,” where individuals share their thoughts in writing over time on a dynamic webpage known as a “blog.”

With blogging, subscribers and other blog publishers subscribe to and cross promote each other’s content by linking to and writing about each other.

With podcasting, the author shares his or her thoughts in audio form (MP3) and subscribers download and listen to the audio either on their computers, burn the files to CD, or transfer the files to one of the increasingly popular portable MP3 players.

In fact, the term “podcasting” draws its name from the iPod, created by Apple Computers.

Initially you might think the only people podcasting are geeks and computer nerds, but that’s not the case.

If you imagine “talk radio” meets “free cable access” then you have and idea of what pocasting is now and how it could evolve in the future.

Right now, any idiot (like me) with a microphone and something to say can create an online radio show.

This type of access to media that reaches a world-wide market enables smaller, niche publishers to develop a world-wide following that just isn’t monetarily feasible in traditional mass-media.

That means talk shows like “Chihuahua Breeding” or “Motorcycle Fashion Weekly” that could never hope to afford air time in a local market, can now develop an audience on the Internet.

Log on to PodCastAlley.com to peruse a wide range of available shows on everything from dog training to wine selection and tasting tips (one of the most popular).

Despite all this potential power, podcasting remains in an infancy stage right now.

But, the Internet has always proven in the past that a powerful but simple technology will always find a way to make itself felt quickly.

All it needs to explode is a few people to lead the way and show exactly how to use the technology to entertain and educate subscribers.

I also think two worlds will evolve for podcasting program publishers, just like cable vs. network television.

Some content will remain free (network TV), while some subscribers will gladly pay for more specific “niche” or pay-per-view content (cable TV).

As the quality of the programming increases along with more widespread acceptance of the tools necessary to consume the content (MP3 players and portable video players), podcasting will grow to stand beside other mainstream media.

It won’t happen overnight, and it won’t penetrate every market, but as members of the “global village” seek to find and feel a connection with like-minded individuals, regardless of their physical location, podcasting provides a cheap, powerful, and innovative solution for that basic human need.

Sports Radio Lineup Change At 99.9 Fm The Fan, 620 Am The Buzz

RALEIGH, N.C. (February 18, 2010) – Capitol Broadcasting Company (CBC) has announced that Mark & Mike, The Insiders, will be switching time slots and stations with Adam & Joe, effective Thursday, February 18.

Adam Gold & Joe Ovies will be moving into the 99.9 FM The Fan afternoon slot (3-7 PM) while Mark Thomas and Mike Maniscalco, The Insiders, are headed to the morning slot (6-9 AM) on 620 AM The Buzz.

Adam & Joe have become staples on Triangle sports radio, working together for six years prior to joining CBC in October. Gold has been in sports radio for over a decade, spending most of his career on the air across the Triangle. Ovies served as general manager at the North Carolina State University student station, WKNC, prior to joining Adam & Joe.

A cornerstone of CBC’s sports radio programming since the launch of 99.9 FM The Fan in 2007, Mark Thomas and Mike Maniscalco bring a distinct local flavor to area sports coverage through The Insiders.  Thomas, a native of Smithfield, N.C., was a tight end on the football team at N.C. State University and played several years professionally.  Maniscalco, also a renowned local radio personality, will continue his role as the pre- and post-game host of the Carolina Hurricanes games on 99.9 FM The Fan, the flagship radio station for the Triangle’s NHL franchise.

“This change is just another positive step towards further growth for our sports radio stations,” says Operations Manager Dave Shore.  “There are great opportunities for each of these programs in new timeslots and we’re excited to see what we can accomplish with both shows moving forward.”

In August, CBC announced it would expand its radio sports coverage in the Triangle by acquiring 620 The Bull (WDNC), 1550 (WCLY) and the rights to the sports programming on 850 The Buzz (WRBZ).  The addition of these stations complemented Capitol’s 99.9 FM The Fan which signed on with an all sports format in Fall, 2007.  Sports Programming in the Triangle can now be found on the following CBC properties: 99.9 FM The Fan – ESPN Radio, 620 AM The Buzz and 1550 AM – ESPN Deportes.  Long time sports radio market veteran Brian Maloney oversees the three station sports cluster as General Manager.

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/Are Radio Stations Doing Enough For Local Music Talent?

Radio stations have often been criticized for playing it too safe where new music is concerned. Quite often, this criticism has been justified. When radio music is listened to critically, it’s quickly apparent that examples of new music tend to closely follow the patterns of what’s currently popular. Local music is seldom, if ever, featured in preference for national and international celebrities.

Terrestrial radio stations have been subject to stiff competition from streaming music stations lately. This is really not surprising. The streaming stations offer a great deal of new music. Where the stations are closely in contact with their local communities, UK music talent has a much better chance of gaining an international audience, something with which terrestrial radio cannot compete.

Where new music radio stations are concerned, those programs that actually feature local music generally only occupy a short amount of time during the broadcast day—or week—and are not as heavily advertised as those programs which feature the most popular recording artists.

For musicians operating in a local scene, the potential for getting any help from radio is fairly sparse. Radio has become more and more dominated by fewer and fewer broadcasters and radio music has become more homogenized over the years. UK music talent, which once could rely on programs that featured the latest bands from throughout the isles, now have to compete with international acts who come with all the slick production and marketing that multi-national record labels can afford. Because of the expense of broadcasting, many of the best new music radio stations are to be found on the Internet. Of course, this sort of broadcasting carries with it an increased risk of piracy but the tradeoff might be worth it for some bands.

New music always suffers for having to develop an audience before it is taken seriously by record companies. The companies aren’t being evil or scurrilous, they’re simply trying to sell a product and only have a certain amount of capital to invest. Like any investor, they’d prefer that capital were put toward a venture that will generate revenue for them. New music is always a risk, in that regard. A band may become the next Beatles or the next nobody and there is really no way of knowing.

Radio music has essentially been transformed into a means to advertise music that is already selling well. Those artists that dominate the airwaves generally suffer no lack of publicity and are certainly not restricted to notoriety in only a local music scene. This makes it more difficult for local bands to break into the mainstream, especially if they’re playing a particularly innovative form of music that hasn’t yet garnered a large following.

Radio stations, as the world moves more toward digital formats, are likely to become less important to the world of music than they have been in the past. As they’re converted to be essentially advertising mediums, whether the advertisements be purchased by sponsors or are in the form of songs by major label’s current big sellers, their service to new music and to UK music talent is not likely to increase, barring major shifts in the market.

UK music talent would do well to look for other means of gaining popularity and, if they desire to break into those new music radio venues, they would do well to already have a following before they try. Radio is a medium that tends to increase sales once there are sales to increase, but not one which is particularly good for starting from zero.

Internet Radio and Wedding Plans

About the Author

(ArticlesBase SC #3317902)

Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/Internet Radio and Wedding Plans

A lot of time and preparation takes place before a happy couple’s wedding day. More than half of the planning is for the reception after the wedding. A ceremony usually lasts between fifteen and thirty minutes, but the reception can go on for hours into night. It is a time to celebrate with the newlyweds, dine, drink champagne if you are old enough, and dance the night away. Some couples choose to hire a DJ, and others take care of the music themselves. There is a lot of planning simply for the music during the reception. Here are some ways in which Internet radio can help during your wedding plans.

Planning and preparing for your ceremony and reception can be extremely stressful. There is so much to think about and a lot of people to take into consideration. You have to find food that everyone will like, a location that your family and friends will be able to go to, what kind of music people like and so on. Unfortunately, this can cause fights or panic attacks. If you are under a lot of stress or need to deescalate, listening to music can calm your nerves. Since you are probably looking up information on the Internet, you should keep a tab open with a radio channel ready to be played.

Listening to music while planning can also spark some creativity and inspiration in you. You may be inspired by a love song that you hear or get ideas for a theme when listening to a certain genre of music. Your spouse might have family from another country that has different cultures and customs. You can learn a lot about other cultures by listening to their traditional music. You can find music from all over the world on the Internet. You might even be planning your reception to have a worldly theme, and you can find music to play online.

If you are working with a DJ or choose not to hire one, you should still have a playlist for the reception. You can find fun dance music or love songs for slow dances. Listening to Internet Radio offers you to listen to a lot of music genres in one place without distractions from radio hosts and a lot of commercials. If you decide to play your own music and not hire a DJ, you can always connect your computer to high quality speakers to play music. Internet radio is perfect for this because it has fewer commercials than traditional radio, and you can easily switch music channels and genres.

Jeff Bachmeier is owner of 977music.com, an online music and online radio station network providing live streaming Internet Radio channels with music from the 50′s thru Today. Users can also choose to create their own customized on demand playlist through their own social media profile. For more information please visit http://www.977music.com.

The Use of Audio Aids in the Efl Class at the Tertiary Level: a Plus or a Minus?

Audio aids function as learning facilitators and teaching machines, and motivate the learner and arrest his/her attention during the instructional process. Though such aids are greatly helpful in L2 teaching and continually expanding their scope with the availability and development of technology, their use in the EFL class especially at the tertiary level in Bangladesh is still limited. This study was then designed to address varied issues related to the use of audio aids in the EFL class.

The Shadow came to network airwaves on September 26, 1937, over the Mutual Broadcasting System, with 22-year-old Orson Welles starring as Lamont Cranston, a “wealthy young man about town.” Once The Shadow joined Mutual as a half-hour series on Sunday evenings, the program did not leave the air until December 26, 1954. The famous catch phrase,”Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?” was accompanied by the strains of an excerpt from Opus 31 of the Camille Saint-Saëns classical composition, Le Rouet d’Omphale.

AOL Radio, Pandora, Slacker and Last.fm are a few of the online radio services that have become popular these last few years. A lot of of these are also accessible on portable devices including mobile phones. Are local radio stations doomed? I will take a closer look at online radio to attempt to answer this question. In particular I will study the impact of online radio on local broadcasters.

Local radio stations do appear to have a hard time nowadays. Satellite radio has been cutting the market share of conventional radio stations severely in the past few years by offering mobility, a large number of commercial-free music channels and news and entertainment channels. In particular, online radio has turn out to be quite popular by offering a virtually infinite amount of radio channels.

Pandora in addition to other online radio providers have become available on mobile products by installing the appropriate app. This raises convenience and mobility of online radio. Mobility has thus far been the biggest advantage of local radio.

AOL Radio which features 200 plus music channels of 25 genres utilizes CBS radio as its underlying platform. It also offers access to 150 national CBS radio stations. Listeners can also create their own customized radio stations at the CBS radio “play.it” website and save each track for playback on an iPod by using 3-rd party software iGetMusic.

Other online music services have followed suit and are offering similar customized music. Pandora and Last.fm permit listeners to enter the name of an artist and then play music by arbitrarily choosing titles by these artist along with other titles which are similar in genre or character. Up to now, however, competing music services have fallen short to offer similarly fully customized radio channels.

Are traditional radio stations destined to become extinct by the constant reduction of market share due to online radio? Online radio has proved useful in particular for niche broadcasters as a result of the inherently lower broadcasting expense in comparison with local radio stations.

As the variety of stations is a benefit to listeners, it is at the same time diluting market share and online radio broadcasters are finding it difficult to draw a reasonably large number of listeners and be lucrative. At the same time, however, there is less pressure to insert commercials because of the lower expenses of broadcasting in comparison with conventional stations. This has made online radio content more interesting than terrestrial radio.

Local programming such as news and local events, nonetheless, will remain one of the big benefits of local radio. One disadvantage of local radio has been the inferior audio quality of FM broadcasts. On the other hand, that is being remedied by the recent introduction of digital radio broadcasts such as HD radio. It is hard to predict a clear winner in the battle between online and local radio as both offer their own exclusive content and high mobility which are the vital aspects that will decide the destiny of each service.
